At Work: Paintings by Heidi Broner
on display at the Governor’s Office for April and May

At Work, a show of paintings of working Vermonters by Montpelier artist Heidi Broner will be on display at the Governor’s Office on the fifth floor of the Pavilion Office Building in Montpelier from April 6th through May 29th. Governor James Douglas invites the public to a reception in honor of the artist, on Thursday, April 16th, from 3 to 5 PM.

Broner’s arresting compositions portray the gritty reality of the workaday world with a grace that is a tribute to the skill and strength of her subjects. Without romanticizing the labor depicted in her paintings, Broner nonetheless succeeds in reminding the viewer of the many people whose hard work, though vital to the health of our communities, often goes unrecognized.

A self-taught artist, Broner has worked in a wide variety of media. She has illustrated books, designed and painted murals and created masks and puppets for the opera Frida. Broner also worked for years as a painter and puppeteer with Bread and Puppet Theater in Glover, Vermont. More recently Broner has been engraving granite. At Work is on display Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
