CALL TO ARTISTS: New City Galerie in Burlington accepting submissions

DEADLINE: Monday, March 18

ECOLOGIES: Featuring Brian Collier

New City Galerie is accepting submissions for its April show centered around environmental and ecological education and justice. All media are accepted. In particular, we are looking for pieces that highlight the problems and opportunities that urbanization creates for ecological development. We are especially interested in work focused on local issues here in Vermont, but we are open to national or international projects as well.

Our centerpiece exhibit with Brian Collier draws attention to the mini- habitats that can spring up even in the midst of large scale urban or suburban development. His purpose is to show the tenacity and resilience of native animal and plant life to survive and thrive when even small pockets of earth are allowed to go wild in our midst.

DEADLINES AND DETAILS:

Submit artwork by Monday, March 18th. We will finalize our selection by Tuesday, March 19th.

There are two ways to submit artwork:
1. send digital images of your artwork directly to newcitygalerie@gmail.com OR
2. share larger files (e.g., audio/video recordings) with newcitygalerie@gmail.com using Dropbox or Google Drive.

If you have problems submitting artwork, questions, etc., please contact us at newcitygalerie@gmail.com

Art Using books as a material/format
This juried show looks to explore this idea of "the book" and all the ways artists use that format as a stepping-off point.

The broad theme of “UNBOUND~VOL III” encompasses all of the possibilities of what we may think or may not think a “book” is. Is it story? An entry to another world? An exploration? What does it indicate? This juried show looks to explore these ideas of “the book” and all the ways artists use its format as a stepping off point or as a material to explore new ideas. Cash Prizes.

Submissions must be postmarked by mail or emailed by June 15, 2013 with $30 entry fee. This show is open to artists 18 and older working in New England and New York. Open to all 2D and 3D, installation, and assemblage artists.

RANDOLPH: “Memories of Unconscious Nothing” By Lit Tyler

February 10 - May 31, 2013

Our current exhibit, “Memories of Unconscious Nothing," features the photographs of Montpelier artist Lit Tyler. His work will be on display at the Hartness Library through May 31, 2013.

Lit Tyler is the Director of Institutional Research at Vermont Technical College and has been with the college since 2008. Born in the bone-chilling arctic winds of Franz Joseph Land, Lit Tyler came to New York as a stowaway on a large commercial liner in 1909. Quickly finding success in the world of professional wrestling, he is, perhaps, better known by his alias, world renowned lucha-libre wrestler El Berzerko Fantastico. WINOOSKI: Heron Dance Wild Nature Art Gallery Opens

Opening: Friday, March 1, 2013 from 5-8 p.m.
Heron Dance Wild Nature Art Gallery

Music for the grand opening will be performed by The Hardscrabble Hounds and Helen Hummel. Food and refreshments will be available.

The opening exhibit will feature Roderick MacIver’s original watercolors and acrylic ink paintings of wild nature. Rod lives in a cabin deep in the Adirondack woods and is focused on creatively expressing gratitude for the gift of life and the beauty and mystery of the natural world. His paintings are inspired by his life in the woods.

“I’ve traveled a lot in my life, mostly along the fringes of our culture, mostly in the woods and on wild waters,” said Roderick MacIver. “Heron Dance is about what I’ve learned and what I still search for. The new gallery opens a public window into my artwork and books.”

Located at 45 Main Street, Winooski, VT (on the central traffic circle, look for the large Winooskifalls.com flag near the door), the new gallery has large white walls reaching up to 24ft high ceilings. Floor to ceiling western facing windows soak the gallery in the afternoon sunlight. In Winooski's revitalized downtown, about a mile from downtown Burlington.
